I have been helping clients to realize their dream rooms for more than 20 years. And I feel just as passionately about design today as I did when I first opened my office. In fact, I’m more excited today. There are so many wonderful tools now – such as Houzz and Pinterest – to help us communicate to clients and they to us. Social media has brought design voices from all over the world to share and inspire – and sell beautiful crafts and products hidden to us in the past.
Look at Etsy – one of the most brilliant sites ever created. It’s literally a world market where anything is possible! I just ordered a vintage 50’s clock for my office from a woman in Berlin. It was made in East Berlin – she owns a resale shop there. My handknit scarf came from a woman in Morocco. I found the perfect 40’s barkcloth for my cabin window from a small shop in Pennsylvania. I can shop anywhere from my phone…
And I can also see something in my travels and photograph it and broadcast my find immediately – to hundreds of my followers who can then exclaim about it and pass it along. Instant ideas. Instant gratification. Instantly.
Design of an entire room, by its very nature, however, can’t be instant or it won’t stand the test of time. It’s a never ending conversation. Let’s get started.
