Honey, I Shrunk the Pool House!

September 10, 2020

Last fall, my husband and I toyed with the idea of building a pool and mid-century style pool/guest house at our Indiana cabin.  I even drafted some rough plans which included a great room, sleeping for 4-6 and a kitchenette for easy pool service.

Then the pandemic hit.  We shelved our plans because of the economic uncertainty, and  (sadly) the vanishing act of 40 + friends and family who had vowed they would make the drive to share our pool fun…Our mantra became “maybe next year!”

Then my daughter introduced me to KidKraft playhouses…I know, it’s not exactly built for guests, but it’s a bright substitute for what we CAN install at our cabin that will make our three grandchildren jump for joy.  And it’s soooo mid-century!

The weight of the box coming off the truck told us that the kit was “complex…”

Well-assembled, but daunting in it’s precise packing!

Theo had his tools ready for action…

We chose a spot where the tractor doesn’t mow, yet has a view of the lake!

Organizing the parts took one and half hours!

More than 350 screws…

Starting with the picnic table…

Walls slowly emerged…

After lunch precision building continued…

We tarped the top because it was still roofless.  Rain was on the way.

The next morning, finishing touches went on…

Sink installed – check.  Grill installed – check.

Theo takes food orders…

Then checks the picnic area…

Sloane shows her delight that the playhouse is complete…

And Theo voices his delight, as we tarp it for Labor Day rain…

Wish I could invite you out to share our tiny house adventures.  Maybe next year!
