It’s baby number two! And it’s a girl. We were very busy this fall!
I am Kiki, formerly known as Cookie, grandmother to two-year-old Theo, whose room my daughter and I created in the fall of ’16. It’s a wonderful room that should grow with little Theo as he watches his crib stretch into a big-boy single bed…
Our challenge was to create the perfect nursery for this little girl on the way. It’s not like our family to do too much girly stuff. We’re much more into solid design that stands the test of time.
My daughter sent me some Houzz photos showing nurseries with very dark teal walls. I love small, dark rooms – especially in our climate. I find them cozy and secure, so I approved immediately.
.
Adding to her enthusiasm with the teal, she had discovered some textured wall decals of oranges with green leaves. We’ve decided to tumble those oranges down the teal wall over the changing table.
This baby will be surrounded by white furniture, Jenny Lind style. I think this influence may have come from both of us loving anything Southern, and totally relishing a lazy, sun-kissed vibe in colors and interiors.
My daughter also ordered the most charming print of a summer garden party (again, Southern style) to put over the crib. It offers a delightful summer mood that may escape the baby for a while, but will certainly help my daughter fantasize through those long winter nights rocking endlessly!
And they actually make fun sheets in bizarre, rather adult colors for cribs.
Who was that clever?
My challenge was to pull all of this together with the right fabric print for a small valance and an area rug with subtle hings of the same colors throughout. (Biggest challenge of all – I think we did well!)
The wall embellishments were fun to collect (thank you, Etsy) and put just the right spin on femininity for my daughter’s taste.
A little antique shopping in Michigan over Thanksgiving break presented us with the small garden column next to the rocker – perfect as a small coffee/tissue table.
And finally, Pottery Barn’s wall mounted bookcase is THE answer for a small room.
